The International Standard of Phytosanitary Management 15, is a process that is internationally recognised and administered by government bodies throughout the world, which in the U.K. is managed and controlled by the U.K. Forestry Commission.

The I.S.P.M.15 treatment is a process that Internationally is legislated and applied throughout the World to all forms of natural fibrous materials and timbers that are subject to import or export from one Country to another. The legislation states that all natural fibrous materials and timber, particularly that with retained bark, must be heat treated to a core temperature of 56°C for a minimum of 30 minutes and must have supporting documented evidence to confirm the process has been applied and carried out correctly.

In the U.K. recognised applicators will have been subjected to system scrutiny by the Forestry Commission, and if approved will be authorised to apply a unique indelible stamp to all treated items, as well as being able to issue the correct supporting documentation required to satisfy the import and export authorities confirming the treatment process.

The purpose of the treatment is to restrict the transportation of any form of Fungal or Parasitic contamination within the timber that may become harmful or destructive to the natural environment or vegetation of the receiving Country.

The maintenance and enforcement of this standard is crucial to the wellbeing of Countries and their habitats throughout the world, and as such is a responsible task that requires properly trained and accredited personnel to complete.
